Steve Harris is an African-American movie and television actor born on December 3, 1965 in Chicago, Illinois. The son of a bus driver and a housewife, he is also the older brother of actor Wood Harris, and he went by the nickname “Smooth.” He attended St. Joseph High School in Westchester, Illinois, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts from North Illinois University. He then went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Delaware. He has appeared in feature films such as The Rock, The Mod Squad, and Minority Report. He has also worked on a number of television series, among them The Batman, Grey's Anatomy, and Ally McBeal.

Eugene Young is portrayed by Steve Harris in the Emmy Award-winning legal drama series The Practice. He starts out working as an attorney for Bobby Donnell, and later on progresses to the position of senior partner. He used to work as a private investigator before becoming a lawyer, and is no stranger to the strong-arm tactics needed on the street. At one point in his life, he was a victim of racial profiling, having been beaten by the police for matching the general description of a suspect. He is strongly and firmly devoted to the strict letter of the law, even more so than Jimmy and Bobby, and has had his life influenced by the death of his older brother in prison.
