
The premiere episode of the upcoming 23rd season of
The Oprah Winfrey Show is airing on September 8th, and what better way to kick off another insightful year than to have this year’s Olympian athletes coming home to the show? The Associated Press reports that gold medalists Michael Phelps, Nastia Liukin and Kobe Bryant, and some 150 more U.S. Olympic team members will be appearing on the season premiere of Oprah’s talk show.
The 54-year-old queen of talk is planning to tape the show at Chicago’s Millennium park on Wednesday, and Harpo Productions announced that Winfrey wanted to have a “welcome home celebration” for the athletes and to showcase Chicago as it bids to host the 2016 Olympics.
Aside from Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, who successfully grabbed a record-breaking eight gold medals at the Beijing Games, the beach volleyball gold medal team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, gold medal basketball players Carmelo Anthony, Lisa Leslie and Dwyane Wade, and silver medal swimmer Dara Torres will also be in attendance at the season premiere of the Oprah Winfrew Show.
In other news, Oprah was recently spotted in Denver’s Democratic National Convention, where she was deeply moved by Senator Barrack Obama’s speech.
"Just seeing him on stage, I cried my eyelashes off," Winfrey told Entertainment Tonight. "We have to do whatever it takes to get him in office."
Moreover, rapper Kaney West says that it was definitely engaging experience, adding that “It changed my life.”
The event was star-studded, as celebrities such as Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lopez, and Jessica Alba, were all there to support their favorite presidential candidate.
The Republican National Convention, which will showcase Obama’s rival Senator John McCain, will begin on Monday, with celebrity supporters Dean Cain, Daddy Yankee and Heidi Montag, amongst others.
