Last week, The Office aired its 100th episode, which also served as its fifth season ender. "Company Picnic" was over before you knew it and it clearly wasn't enough to cram all the characters and hilarious storylines in just 30 minutes. Kelly and Creed were missing and some characters didn't get enough screen time. Still, the episode had a lot of monumental scenes that set the ground for next season.
I've gathered some cliffhangers from the finale and I'm leaving it up to you to sound-off on what could possibly happen when The Office returns for season 6!
Pam and Jim (and the baby)Most season enders on
The Office lead to pivotal moments for Jim and Pam. If you recall, Jim revealed that he's in love with Pam and kissed her in season 2's "Casino Night, asked her out on a real date in season 3's "The Job" and almost popped the big question to her in season 4's "Goodbye, Toby." The fifth season ender, however, was different.
While getting an x-ray for a sprained ankle she sustained during a volleyball game at the company picnic, Pam and Jim embraced and it was hinted that Pam is pregnant. Jim and Pam's biggest moment this season may have been silent but their ecstatic reaction totally gave it away. Sure, everyone knew that the two are bound to tie the knot at some point but a baby on the way was far from everyone's mind. John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer's acting were actually so convincing that I can't help but feel excited for Pam and Jim.
On the other hand, a baby changes everything. Do we really want to see Pam and Jim with a baby while still working at Dunder Mifflin? Are they going to get married before or after giving birth? And what would this mean for
The Office? Most sitcoms fall short upon the introduction of a baby but I still have faith that the writers of
The Office could turn Pam's pregnancy into something great.
Holly and MichaelA Holly and Michael reunion finally happened! It wasn't exactly a happy ending as many fans hoped it would be but it did, somehow, left the door open for these two soul mates. When Michael saw Holly at the company picnic (the first time since they parted ways), they immediately rediscovered that old spark. Of course, AJ, Holly's boyfriend, was still very much in the picture but Michael and Holly's chemistry just pushed through the roof as they brainstormed odd ideas for their sketch show while romantically laying opposite each other. Michael, who's determined to profess his love for Holly, found the perfect moment to deliver his speech but decided not to ruin his chances of trying to win her back. Instead, they reminisced about the old times and talked about how much they are looking forward to next year's company picnic. In spite of everything, a more matured Michael knew that he and Holly are "one of those couples with a long story.''
I have a feeling that we have not seen the last of Amy Ryan though I don't think she'll become a regular on the show. And as much as I'd like Michael to end up with Holly, I'd rather see Holly as a sporadic guest so as not to spoil their love saga.
Dwight and Angela
These two may be polar opposites but they clearly belong together. And despite their complicated history, not to mention the Andy-Angela-Dwight love triangle, a scene in the finale (Dwight stopped Rolph from insulting Angela, much to her delight) suggests that a Dwight and Angela reconciliation may just take place in the near future. Maybe this will even resolve the competition between Dwight and Andy as he lets Andy pursue Erin -which actually brings me to my next point!
Andy and ErinI'm not really a fan of Andy and Erin but I think that the pairing just might work. I also think Andy is still attracted to the receptionist and the finale established just that. Perhaps love is in the cards for Andy next season?
Which couple are you looking forward to next season?
