The employees of Dunder Mifflin will once again plague our screens as The Office releases its fifth season DVD on September 8. As expected, the five-disc set comes with a bunch of bonus materials, including commentaries, deleted scenes and webisodes, aside from the 28 episodes of the most recent season.
Though some people consider season 5 as a slightly jaded season compared to previous seasons of
The Office, it has offered a lot of hilarious storylines and achieved several milestones: Jim finally proposes to Pam in the season premiere though she enrolls in a graphic design course at the Pratt Institute in New York and the physical separation puts a strain on their relationship. Michael and Holly's friendship blossoms into romance though they break up when Holly is transferred back to the Nashua branch after corporate finds out about their relationship. Dwight and Angela continue their affair despite her engagement to Andy but upon learning that Angela had slept with them both, Andy cancels the wedding and Dwight breaks up with her. Michael, on the other hand, earns praise for the success of his branch in tough economic times but decides to resign when his laid back approach clashes with the managerial style of new hired vice president Charles Minor. Michael then opens his own paper company, Michael Scott Paper Company, with Pam and Ryan joining as his sales steam. Threatened by Michael's new business venture, Dunder Mifflin buys out Michael Scott Paper Company and, as part of the agreement, rehires Michael as the regional manager with Pam as a salespersons and Ryan resuming his temp duties.
And as the season 5 came to a close,
The Office leaves us enough cliffhangers to chew on until the next season airs in the fall. There's Michael and Holly's vague future, Dwight and Angela's possible reunion, and best of all, Pam's pregnancy.
