Oh, holidays at the office. How have yours been?
Mine, well, I couldn't say much. A newbie like me isn't supposed to have any idea on what's going to happen.
As for the folks at Dunder-Mifflin, well… I honestly don't think it's anything ordinary. The first Christmas party we've seen from these folks, everybody fought over a video iPod, from the moment Michael (
Steve Carell) decided to introduce a “Yankee Swap” after he gave the gadget to Ryan (
B.J. Novak) and got something handmade from Phyllis (
Phyllis Smith). Not that handmade gifts are bad, but sometimes a $20 limit on gifts just won't work—especially when someone decides to break the rule and buy an iPod.
The next time we met them during the holidays, things have become pretty different. Suddenly Michael is celebrating a cold Christmas, when his girlfriend Carol (Nancy Walls) split up with him. (And he must feel he wasted money, too, since he had two tickets to Jamaica with him.) The result: a little get-together with Dwight (
Rainn Wilson), Andy (
Ed Helms) and Jim (
John Krasinski) to Benihana, where things start descending to a little chaos. A little, I say, because there were two rival parties going on back at home base.
Well, thankfully I don't think my first Christmas at work would descend into something like that, but someone might spring a surprise. Who knows, someone might break up with someone and drag me to some Japanese restaurant. Or I might get another iPod—well, that's very unlikely.
Tonight, we'll see the folks at
The Office in full Christmas somethings for a third time in the show's run. And this time, they'll be in Morocco… well, a Moroccan-themed party that Phyllis will throw. I expect spicy Moroccan cuisine, of course, and I expect a fire. Really, someone's hair will go on fire. All of that will happen, as Dwight tries to hunt down the hottest toy this season. Oh, indeed, some things never change.
The Office airs tonight from 9pm ET on NBC.
And, again, how have your holidays been?
