Following NBC's recent pick-up of six new comedies, FOX is also
expanding its comedy lineup by picking up three new shows for next
season. The shows, all single-camera like FOX's
New Girl and
Raising Hope, include one starring
The Office's Mindy Kaling, one from the men behind
How I Met Your Mother and another starring recent Oscar winner Nat Faxon.
FOX has also picked up two dramas for next season, The first is
The Mob Doctor, which is about exactly what you think it's about and will hopefully get a new title before it airs. It stars Jordana Spiro from the TBS sitcom
My Boys and
Friday Night Lights star Zach Gilford.
The second new drama,
The Following, stars Kevin Bacon, who plays an ex-FBI agent investigating a serial killer (James Purefoy) who has formed a cult of serial killers. The show is produced by Kevin Williamson (
The Vampire Diaries, the
Scream films) and will most likely be for mid-season as Bacon has only agreed to do 15 episodes.
The Mindy Kaling project,
It's Messy, stars Kaling as an OB/GYN trying to deal with her professional and personal lives. It's being produced by Kaling and her
Office co-star, B.J. Novak.
Ben and Kate stars Nat Faxon (who won an Oscar for co-writing
The Descendents with Alexander Payne and
Community's Jim Rash) as a man who moves in with his sister as his niece's nanny. Faxon's voice was featured in FOX's animated series
Allen Gregory.
The final new comedy for FOX is
The Goodwin Games from
HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. The show is about a father who leaves his fortune to his three kids if they agree to his unusual conditions. The show stars Becki Newton (currently on
HIMYM as Barney's stripper girlfriend) and Scott Foley (who will be on
True Blood this summer).
