The Office is played by Oscar Nunez. A man of Mexican descent, Oscar's parents emigrated from Mexico into the United States, where he was born. He grew up to be an accountant at the paper distributor, Dunder-Mifflin, where his boss, Michael Scott had revealed to the whole office that Oscar was gay. Although calm and hard-working, Oscar occasionally grows weary of his boss' inappropriate comments and points of view. He lives with his partner, Gil, who was once thought of as merely his roommate.
Michael and Oscar had an awkward conversation on Diversity Day, when Michael made an example of Oscar in the training seminar. Michael believed that the term "Mexican" was offensive, thus asking Oscar if there was a less offensive term he could use. Oscar replied that the term was not offensive at all.
Whenever Michael isn't around, Oscar enjoys playing paper football with officemate Kevin Malone, with whom he keeps a two-year running total of their scores. Oscar did not have a good working relationship with Angela Martin, as her poster of babies dressed as jazz musicians offended him more than hardcore pornography.
Oscar had tried to keep his sexual identity a secret until the third season when Michael called him a “faggy” after Oscar chose the film Shakespeare in Love over Die Hard. Oscar was hurt at Michael's comment and decided to report it to corporate. Michael, on the other hand, realized that Oscar was indeed homosexual, and decided to make it up to him by embracing the gay culture. Moreover, Michael called a meeting and announced Oscar's homosexuality to the whole staff, thus humiliating Oscar even more. Corporate manager Jan Levinson took over the situation and gave Oscar a three-month paid vacation to Europe and a company car for all the trouble that Michael had caused him.
