Rainn Wilson as Dwight Schrute
Dwight Kurt Schrute III is played by Rainn Wilson in the NBC hit,
The Office. As a child, several instances affected Dwight's personality, thus making him the obnoxious person he is today. When he was around the age of five, his family shunned him for forgetting to save the excess oil from a can of tuna. Moreover, he misspelled the word "failure," causing him to lose in the grade school spelling bee.
A salesman at the Scranton branch of the paper-goods distribution company Dunder Mifflin, Dwight is also the assistant to the Regional Manager, Michael Scott. A gullible and naive man, he likes adoring Michael and getting attention from him. Like Michael, he desperately needs as much attention as he can get. He is often tormented by his officemate and fellow salesman Jim Halpert, who later gets promoted to Assistant Regional Manager, much to Dwight's dismay.
Dwight is actually the top salesman in the branch, however, he terribly lacks social skills and common sense. He enjoys hero-worshipping his boss, Michael Scott, and loves it when he plays his boss' sidekick in Michael's ill-conceived ideas. He is thrilled whenever Michael gives him a task, and is happy to be handed authority.
Dwight often sees himself as the center of attention, and imagines himself to be a hero in an action movie. He enjoys idolizing fictitious television heroes such as Hiro Nakamura of Heroes and Jack Bauer of 24.
Despite his subtle nerdiness, he is interested in muscle cars and actually owns a maroon 1987 Pontiac Trans Am. He also owns a collection of bobblehead dolls at his desk, and apparently knows how to make traditional corn husk dolls.
Despite being sexist and homophobic, he cannot recognize homosexuality in other individuals. He developed a secret relationship with Angela Martin, but the relationship was soon uncovered by Ryan Howard and Jim Halpert. Dwight is often the victim of practical jokes cooked up by Jim and Pam. He finally got his revenge when he stole Jim's largest client, eventually winning the 2005 Salesman of the Year Award.
