Andy Bernard

Ed Helms as Andy Bernard

Andrew "Andy" Bernard of NBC's The Office is played by Ed Helms. Appearing on the third season of The Office, Andy is the Regional Director in Charge of Sales at the Stamford branch of Dunder-Mifflin. An overconfident sycophant, he has problems in dealing with his anger. Formerly from the Stamford branch of Dunder-Mifflin, he moved to the Scranton branch upon its closure.

Andy hails from Cornell University and bragged that he never studied for exams, got drunk every night and was still able to graduate in four years. He said that he was initially wait-listed to get into the school, but soon sang his way into college.

A music-lover, Andy is a fan of The Cardigans, The Cranberries and the Indigo Girls. He used to be part of the a capella group named Here Comes Treble.

Andy likes making up nicknames for his officemates, and named Jim "Big Tuna" after he saw Jim eating a tuna sandwich on Andy's first day at Stamford. He also called Ryan "Big Turkey," and said that Jim's new nickname was "Big Haircut" after Jim had his haircut.

Andy's favorite drink is what he called Nog-a-Sake, a combination of eggnog and sake. However, he often has trouble getting Nog-a-Sake since eggnog is seasonal. Its name is also a pun on the city of Nagasaki.

Having a bad case of an anger management problem, Andy screamed and kicked a trash can across the office after discovering that his calculator was embedded in Jell-O, a prank courtesy of Jim Halpert. He also once threatened to kill Jim over a video game and threw a tantrum upon discovering that the Stamford branch was closing.

Jim was initially terrified of Andy's outbursts after lashing out, but continued to maintain a relatively professional relationship with Andy. Andy was finally sent to anger management training after punching a hole in the wall in frustration over a hidden phone.
