Alan Dale drew much attention when he was cast as Caleb Nichol on the drama series
The O.C. He started as a recurring character on the first season and eventually became a regular cast member during the show’s second season. As the father of Kirsten Cohen, he had an on-going feud with son-in-law Sandy Cohen and generally disliked his adoptive grandson Ryan Atwood. He was also known to have relationships with Rose Nichol, Renee Wheeler, and Julie Cooper. As the CEO of the Newport Group, he appeared to be one of the richest and most powerful men in O.C. until he died from a heart attack, which later revealed that he was actually broke.

Navy NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service as NCIS Director Tom Morrow. He also appeared on
E-Ring as the character Metcalfe and on two episodes of
Lost as Charles Widmore, the wealthy father of Penny, Desmond’s ex-fiancé. He also provided the voice vice president Jim Prescott in
24: The Game and Masa in the video game

Dale currently plays the role of Bradford Meade on the award-winning series
Ugly Betty. He is the famous publishing mogul owner of Meade Publications, a company that publishes the fashion magazine MODE, in which his son Daniel Meade is the editor-in-chief. Responsible for making major changes at the magazine company after the mysterious death of chief editor Fey Sommers, he hands the operations to the inexperienced Daniel and is responsible for hiring Betty Suarez since he believes that she is the only woman in New York City that Daniel will never sleep with.
