Rachel Bilson, popularly known as Summer Roberts on the teen drama series
The O.C. has a landed a role in director Doug Liman's new film called
Jumper. The movie is Bilson's first big screen exposure following the conclusion of the FOX drama.
The former
O.C. actress plays Millie, alongside Hayden Christensen (
Star Wars) who plays the lead role David. Both actors have been taken in as a substitute, replacing original cast members Tom Sturridge (
Being Julia) and Teresa Palmer (
The Grudge 2). Meanwhile, several photos of the pair in Canada and in Los Angeles have recently fueled rumors that the two are currently dating.
Based on the science fiction novel by Steven Gould of the same name,
Jumper follows David, a young man from an abusive household who discovers his ability to teleport after the death of his mother. In a quest to hunt down the man who killed his mother, he draws the attention of both the National Security Agency and another young man with the same teleport power.
The movie also features Samuel L. Jackson as Cox, Diane Lane as Mary Rice, and Jamie Bell as Griffin.
Liman was hired by New Regency Productions to helm the film adaptation of the science fiction novel. Jim Uhls and David S. Goyer were also brought in to screen write the project. Filming already began in September 2006 in various locations in Peterborough, Ontario. Earlier this year, filming of the movie moved to Gallup Park in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where sixty students from nearby Huron High Scholl were cast as extras.
Jumper is currently in postproduction stages and is expected to hit the theaters on February 15, 2008.
