the nineAfter officially taking The Nine off the air due to poor ratings, ABC has decided to revive the remaining episodes of the crime drama series.  Beginning Wednesday, August 1, the formerly axed show will return to its 10pm niche as it previously occupied last fall.

Created by Hank Steinberg, The Nine premiered on October 4, 2006 on ABC.  With a 13-episode order, the network positioned the series in the 10pm slot after Lost.  However, after airing only seven episodes, the network decided to take the series out of its lineup due to poor ratings.  Following this move, much hype surfaced the news regarding the fate of the show, whether it’s already canceled or just on hiatus.  Unfortunately, the network officially pulled the plug on The Nine on May 15.

The Nine featured a group of people who shared a common bond as survivors of a 52-hour hostage standoff during a bank robbery.  The cast included Tim Daly, Lourdes Benedicto, John Billingsley, Jessica Collins and Kim Raver to name a few.

As of the moment, there is no certainty if the show will be able to resolve its central mystery revolving around the hostage standoff with its six remaining episodes.  On the other hand, ABC Entertainment president Stephen McPherson has already hinted back in January that "because it wasn't designed to end at the end of the 13 ... it doesn't answer that specific question."

The Nine will return with all new episodes following where we left off in November, with episode 1.08 "Turning Point."  Remaining episodes will run through September 5. In line with this, the network will not be providing an extensive recap to refresh viewers of what came before and has already removed previously aired episodes from their website.  Nevertheless, they are available for purchase via iTunes.
