It's going to be a very musical early fall for the CW. The network has announced an airdate for the online sensation Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog as well as live episodes of its upcoming singing competition series, The Next.

Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog, a popular Internet musical about a supervillain created by Joss Whedon, will air Tuesday, October 9 at 9pm, following a new episode of Hart of Dixie. The following week will mark the premiere of the new medical drama Emily Owens M.D.

Dr. Horrible stars Neil Patrick Harris as the titular villain in love with a girl (Felicia Day) and the arch-nemesis of Captain Hammer (Castle's Nathan Fillion). The hour-long web series also stars The Big Bang Theory's Simon Helberg.

Aside from Dr. Horrible, the CW's singing series The Next will get three very special live episodes in the fall. On Thursday, September 27 and Tuesday, October 2, finalists will compete live at 9pm. The two-hour finale on Thursday, October 4 will also air live as viewers will be able to vote online and via social media for the winner.

The Next features a group of four singing mentors who go to the hometowns of the finalists and help lead them to victory. The show stars Joe Jonas, Gloria Estefan, John Rich and Nelly. The series begin Thursday, August 16 at 9pm on the CW.

The Next and Dr. Horrible will help set the stage for the CW's late fall premieres as most of its shows don't debut until the middle of October.
