Biography

The Muggs is featured as one of the Top 12 bands in the Fox network’s competitive reality television series The Next Great American Band. They came together in February, back in the year 2000. At the time, guitar player Danny Methric and bass player Tony DeNardo were performing separately in two different bands: The Detroit Underground Blues Band and Fat Belly Brown, respectively. While relaxing at The Music Room located in downtown Detroit, Methric met up with Matt Rost, a local drum player who also had ties to Fat Belly Brown. During the conversation that ensued, Methric learned that Rost was fresh from giving up on a previous project titled The Immortal Winos of Soul, and so he offered the drummer a chance to work on a gig that had more emphasis on the blues.

DeNardo, Methric and Rost began working together and developing their style over the course of the next few months, with all of them being veteran musicians who had been performing for more than half a decade. By October 2000, the Muggs recorded their first EP demo, in order to showcase their talents to bar owners and get more gigs to play at. At one difficult point, DeNardo suffered from a hemorrhagic stroke.
