Ladies and gents, meet Patrick Jane's dad.
Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello reports that Nick Chinlund is joining this season of
The Mentalist for one episode, appearing in a series of flashbacks as Alex, the dad of that intrepid psychic-slash-BS-spotter played by Simon Baker.
Chinlund has stints on
Desperate Housewives and
The Sopranos, and most recently had a two-episode stint on
24.
The episode is expected to air on November 12, where Jane's childhood is expected to be explored: how he worked as a carnival psychic under the watchful eye of his dad, who also works at the carnival. Sounds interesting. Who would've thought Jane started in a carnival?
The floating question, of course, is whether this means there'll be a present-day father-son reunion in coming episodes. A rep for the show isn't saying much. But come to think of it, it does make a whole lot of sense...
