Joy Osmanski grew up in Olympia, Washington. She took up creative writing and studio art at the Principia College and graduated after three years. She began to work as a graphic designer and married her college boyfriend. Osmanski auditioned and snagged the lead role of a local production of Our Town. After performing in more stage productions, she relocated to Los Angeles to expand her repertoire to independent films.
