The L Word: Sixth and Final Season Kicks Off Tonight

The L Word begins with a deadly sixth season.  Tonight, the steamy Showtime drama returns for the last time to once again shed light on a group of lesbians in the trendy Los Angeles-area city of West Hollywood, California.  The final season consists of eight episodes and kicks off as careers evolve, relationships are tested and friendships end in murder in "Long Night's Journey Into Day."

Warning: Spoilers ahead!!!

This year we have Jenny's (Mia Kirshner) murder to look forward to.  Well, it's really not much of a spoiler anymore.  Fans have been long aware of what's bound to happen on the first episode of The L Word's final season since last year.  And unless you've been living under the rock these days, then you wouldn't really be surprised that the show will be losing one of its major characters tonight.  In fact, Showtime even has a special feature on their website that puts the spotlight on Jenny and her possible murder suspects.

Last season's spontaneous steamy moment between Shane (Katherine Moennig) and Nikki (Kate French) led Jenny to confess the identity of her true love, which complicates the group's future dynamics.  In the season opener, Jenny is found dead.  And because of this, you can expect the show to be a full season of whodunit. Everyone's lives are turned upside down, leaving all her friends distressed, but also suspects.  So who did it and how did it all happen?  There's going to be a lot of flashbacks of the months leading up to the murder so viewers can put the pieces together.

While one character meets her end in the final season of The L Word, the story might go on for one of the other characters.  A spin-off series has already been shot but is still in discussions since Showtime president Robert Greenblatt said he has not decided whether the network will move forward with it yet.  The new show revolves around Alice (Leisha Hailey) and will be "substantially different" from the original.  It will reportedly take place in prison so my I guess is that Alice could be Jenny's killer.
