'The Lord of the Rings' Scribes Taking On 'The Hobbit'
Director Guillermo Del Toro and executive producer Peter Jackson have been searching for the past eight months to find someone talented enough to write the scripts for The Hobbit.  The Lord of the Rings prequel is going to be made into two films, with the first being released in 2011 and the second in 2012.  The movies would be huge even if an untalented hack like Ehren Kruger wrote the scripts, but thankfully fans needn't worry about such a thing.

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Del Toro and Jackson, along with Lord of the Rings scribes Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, will team up to write the two films.  This is great news for fans of the Oscar-winning original trilogy, as it ensures that The Hobbit will keep the same tone as its predecessors.  Jackson originally said he wouldn't have time to pen the scripts due to other commitments, but it looks like he freed up his schedule.

The Hobbit is due to start shooting in late 2009.
