While Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, co-stars on MTV's The Hills, attempt to extinguish controversy surrounding their real-life romance, the couple literally had to put out a fire near their Los Angeles area home on Sunday, October 21.

In an interview with Ryan Seacrest on Monday morning's broadcast of his KIIS FM radio program, Pratt and Montag revealed that they were trapped in their Los Angeles area home and were forced to take action against the flames that were threatening their home.

"Spencer was literally down there putting out the fire and I was screaming at him, 'Come back here, the firemen are coming!'" Montag told Seacrest.  "I was like, 'Oh what have our lives come to!'"

"It was her and I putting out the fire with the [garden] hose until the firemen got there," Pratt told Seacrest, adding Montag had previously called 911.  "They were fast."

Once the firemen arrived, Pratt said he and Montag were told to "get out of here" so the flames could be contained and stopped from spreading to surrounding houses.

"The fire is out now," he told Seacrest.

Meanwhile, the Hills stars aren't the only ones affected by the wildfires.  In fact, California was declared in a state of emergency as the blazes continued ripping through Southern California forcing hundreds of thousands of people out of their homes and leaving destruction in its wake. Among the places affected by the fire were Malibu, San Diego, Lake Arrowhead, and Rancho Bernardo.

Aside from the Hills stars, Dancing with the Stars season 5 celebrity participant Jane Seymour's home was also among those in danger due to the wildfires.

"As you can see, my husband [James Keach] is not here tonight," she told People prior to Monday night's live Dancing with the Stars performance episode.  "The fire is close to our home, and there was a mandatory evacuation.  My husband is illegally there, fighting the fire."
