Upon hearing about Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt's divorce, I immediately thought of words and phrases that begin with the letter 'P': Paparazzi. Plastic surgery. Purse dogs. Publicity stunt.

Well, scratch that last one, actually. Apparently Speidi's divorce is real (at least more real than Heidi's surgically upgraded body parts.) People.com reports that Montag filed for divorce in Santa Monica Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences" but that her relationship with Spencer Pratt remains amicable. Still, I don't doubt that Spencer Pratt will probably be spending a lot of time with his $50,000 healing crystal collection to dull the pain.

Before Spencer and Heidi were on every single cover of every single tabloid in every single grocery store in the country, they were just two more cast members on The Hills (a show with a season finale easily summed up in 150 words or less.) Heidi was a real girl, Spencer was...still a jerk...and most of the show centered around the exploits of Lauren Conrad, "LC," and--later on--her long-time nemesis Kristin Cavallari.

Montag and Pratt had two weddings during their stint on The Hills, but it was the second ceremony--the one not involving shots of Tequila--that made their union official. That was just last April. Most of the cast attended the ceremony which, naturally, doubled as a season finale.

Montag's lawyer, Jodeane Farrell, states "The couple has agreed they would like their divorce to be finalized in a timely manner in an out of court settlement."  Which is all good and well, but definitely not as entertaining as this gem from Spencer: "We love each other, but I'm a fame whore and I'll never grow out of it. [Heidi] knows that and doesn't want that."

Cheer up, Spencer. You still have your mural of laminated US Weekly covers to keep you warm at night.
