We're still a couple of weeks away from The Good Wife's season 4 premiere, but luckily the good folks over at CBS have released a couple of videos to hold us over in the meantime. Each one gives us some tantalizing tidbits on what we can expect this season.
The Good Wife is available on Amazon Prime.
It's an adult show."
The first video features a behind-the-scenes interview with star Julianna Margulies and the first words out of her mouth are "it's an adult show." She clarifies what she means by that, pointing out that the writing is so subtle that we in the audience often don't know where the story is going until we are there. It's very true and something I've always loved about this series. From what we can see so far, it looks like that will continue to be the case this season.
"...perhaps governor's wife."
Margulies talks about what we can expect from Alicia this season, telling us that her character will definitely be a loyal and supportive wife to Peter. Despite their past, Alicia really does want him to win the race for governor. When describing Alicia, Margulies called her "the state's attorney's wife..perhaps governor's wife" which sounded pretty prophetic to my ears. I've always liked it when Peter and Alicia work together so I'm really looking forward to seeing how the governor's race plays out throughout the season.
"More of a political drama."
Perhaps the most interesting thing that Margulies said in the first video is that the show will shift a bit this year and become more of a political drama. So it looks like Peter's race for governor will become more of the show's focus. But I was happy that she was also quick to point out that we will still see a lot of courtroom drama, as I'd hate to see the show deviate too much from what made me fall in love with it in the first place.
The second video features interviews with creators and executive producers, Michelle King and Robert King. They us that we will start out season 4 just seconds after season 3 ended, with Kalinda sitting in that chair waiting for the knock on her door. They promise that the person who comes through that door will throw Kalinda's life into turmoil.
"[This season] will push these characters more to the edge than they've ever been."
We are told that this season will explore more and get further into these characters' lives than before; which sounds great to me. They say that we are going to see sides of Cary's character that we've never seen before and my imagination is already going wild with the possibilities of what that could mean. He's always been one of my favorites on the show and I'm dying to see where they take him this season.
"A point of crisis."
The second video also features an interview with Christine Baranski, who tells us that the season begins at a point of crisis at Lockhart Gardner. All of their financial woes are still there and in fact are worse, since we will apparently see Diane standing in bankruptcy court. I'm sure that Diane will handle that with as much dignity as she can, but for a character like her that has got to be pretty devastating.
The two videos together comprise a grand total of less than four minutes of screen time and yet there is so much information in both of them. How do you feel about what the cast and creators have told us about this upcoming season of The Good Wife?
