The Good Wife kicks off season 4 this Sunday, Sept. 30 at 10pm on CBS. Just in time for the show's return, we've got some exciting news about a very special guest star.
When you think of a show like 'The Good Wife', you often think of the fantastic guest actors that have come on the series. So it should be no surprise that they aren't brining in just anyone to play Alicia's mother. For a role like that, you've got to have the best and I think that's exactly who they've found.
reports that none other than the former (sort of) First Lady herself, Stockard Channing has been cast to play the mother of Julianna Margulies' character. Reportedly Channing will appear in at least one episode this season. Her character is described as "mercurial and influenced by her 1960s counterculture youth."
Channing is probably best known for her role as First Lady Abbey Bartlett on The West Wing, playing husband to Martin Sheen's President Josiah "Jed" Bartlett. The actress has also appeared in numerous other TV shows and films, including 1978's Grease.
I'm thinking that if there was anyone on the planet who was fit to play the role of Alicia's mother, it would be Stockard Channing. Alicia's the kind of woman who doesn't take crap from anyone and Channing is great at those kinds of roles. So I'm expecting Alicia's mom to be tough but also lively and probably more than a bit unpredictable.
This character doesn't sound like she will be all that much like Alicia though, which will makes things very interesting. Will she be the kind of mom that drives Alicia crazy by trying to impart her ideals on to her daughter and grandchildren? Also, how much fun is it going to be to see Alicia's mom up against Peter's mom? That's a firework show I can't wait to see. From the description alone we know that those two will be nothing alike and I'm dying to see how Alicia's mom takes to Jackie's attempts to run her son's life, and Alicia's as well.
What do you think of this bit of casting news? Do you think The Good Wife has found the right actress to play Alicia's mom?
