In last week's episode, the Fosters experienced a tragedy when Lena lost the baby, Callie got Jude to talk again, Stef sold that horrible bed and everyone planted a tree in baby Frankie's memory.
In this week's episode, "The Longest Day," Callie takes Jude to meet the Quinns, and Brandon tells Stef and Mike what happened with Dani. Read on to find out if the seventh episode of The Fosters
season 2 delivers the heart and heartache we have come to expect.
Jude Meets Sophia
Callie and Jude are spending the day on a boat trip with the Quinns. Callie wants Jude to get the chance to know Sophia so he does not feel threatened by their relationship.
During the trip, Mrs. Quinn questions Jude about Callie's family situation, and Callie spends some time alone with Sophia and Robert. Robert shows Callie some old pictures of her mother, and Callie agrees to let him open a college fund for her. Meanwhile, Callie gets a glimpse into Sophia's state of mind when they discuss what would have happened if Robert had stayed with Callie's mom. Callie points out that Jude and Sophia never would have been born, and Sophia wonders if that might have been a good thing.
I must admit that I have a hard time getting a read on Mrs. Quinn. She is nice enough to Callie, at least on the surface, but it seems like she is less than thrilled that Callie is now part of their lives. Her relationship with Sophia is also puzzling. Is the show gearing up to reveal that Mrs. Quinn is abusive toward Sophia, or is Sophia's behavior unrelated to her relationship with her mother?
At the end of the day, Callie and Jude talk about the Quinns. Jude wishes Callie had never learned about them, but since he cannot change that, he will learn to share Callie with Sophia the way he learned to share her with the Fosters.Stef Helps Mike Get a Clue
Lena tells Brandon that since the other kids are out of the house, it is time for him to tell Mike and Stef what happened. Brandon has a hard time talking about it, but Lena stays by his side the whole time. Finally, Brandon tells Mike and Stef that he had sex with Dani. Instead of being there for their son, Stef and Mike start tearing into each other. Brandon leaves, and Lena tells them to pull it together.
After calming down a bit, Stef goes to talk to Brandon. She explains that what happened was illegal, and he is the victim in this situation. Brandon does not want to hear it, but Stef says that she has handled a lot of similar cases and it is common for the boys not to realize that they were raped. But Brandon does not want to prosecute Dani and says he will lie if Stef forces him to go to the cops.
Mike has the same problem Brandon has in understanding what happened. It takes Stef pointing out how differently Mike would feel if Mariana was the one who had been assaulted to get Mike to understand that Dani raped his son.
After his conversation with Stef, Mike goes to see Brandon. Brandon apologizes for everything that happened, but Mike says Dani was the responsible adult and should have put an end to things before they went too far. Later, Mike watches as the police take Dani into custody. No Money, More Problems
Mariana is under pressure to perform at dance team practice because they do not have enough money for all the team members to attend the competition. Tia, one of the girls on the team, offers to help Mariana with her floor-work, but Mariana ends up offending her. Later, Mariana suggests that she could talk to Lena to see about getting the team more money, as Lena is still in charge because the new principal has not taken over yet.
Sadly for Mariana, Lena refuses to break the rules, even for her daughter. But Mariana makes up with Tia and they help each other practice. Mariana, please become best friends with Tia and forget the rest of the girls on the team. Hayley, Please Go Away Now
Jesus has more romantic woes than everyone else on this show combined. Emma is angry with him for moving on so quickly after their break-up, and Hayley is jealous of the time Jesus spends with Emma via the wrestling team. So Hayley takes matters into her own hands when Jesus tells her that he is supposed to go to a team dinner/award ceremony that night.
Hayley stops by his house before the dinner and tells him that her parents are getting a divorce. She cries and claims she does not want to be alone, as a way to guilt-trip Jesus into missing the dinner. Later that night, Mariana tells Jesus that Hayley has known about her parents' divorce for months, and Jesus finally starts to realize that Hayley is playing him.
