is ready to harvest a banner crop of doppelgangers, each and every one of the Wells variety.
Without exception, every Flash lead has had to shed their Earth-1 personas in favor of an alternate reality or Flashpoint variant. To his credit, Tom Cavanagh (Wells) was doing that even before Barry (Grant Gustin) cracked the pages on the multiverse, flipping from the vainglorious Reverse Flash to the sunshine optimism of OG Wells way back in season 1. Now, three years later, Cavanagh will continue to sculpt flawless new personalities in the ever-shifting sandbox of Harrison Wells.
"The answer is yes," Cavanagh told the assembled crowd at Toronto's FanExpo
last weekend, assuring viewers that he'll have more doppelgangers up his sleeve in season 4. "Last year we had a tiny piece of it when we went on a quest for H.R. Wells. We found Mime Wells, we found Hells Wells, cowboy Wells. We had so much fun doing that, we thought let's do more of that. This season we're kind of exploring how shameless I can get."
Don't worry, however. Despite the actor's chameleon-like abilities, his upcoming storyline will be firmly rooted in a singular iteration of his character. With original recipe, Reverse Flash, and H.R. now six feet under, The Flash will call on Harry to take up his Earth-1 mantle this fall.
"He's a genius, and his daughter is safe, and she's The Flash on Earth-3, and he's one of those people who's realizing that he doesn't have a life," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly
. "So season 4 for Harry is really realizing what he's missing in his life and what it is he needs to become a better, more complete person, and so he's going to be going on a fairly epic emotional journey this season that is tied to The Thinker's plan."
