FOX loves Kiefer Sutherland. After eight seasons of 24
, the network is now showing faith in his new drama, Touch
, by giving it a second season.
But every silver lining comes with a dark cloud, and this time it's the cancellation of Alcatraz
and The Finder
. Both the sci-fi prison drama from J.J. Abrams and the Bones
spin-off from Hart Hanson have been cancelled after just one season, with The Finder
's season (and now series) finale scheduled for Friday.
went down in the ratings almost every week, Touch
has seemed to stabilize with OK numbers with its post-American Idol
time slot, though it faces stiff competition against CBS' successful Person of Interest
centers on Martin Bohm (Sutherland), a man who attempts to help people interact in special and meaningful ways thanks to the insight of his autistic son Jake who never speaks but who sees patterns in the universe.
The renewal comes soon after FOX has ordered two new dramas and three new comedies
. The show joins Bones
on the network's list of renewed one-hour shows.
The network's fall line-up seems pretty clear. The X Factor
will be back for three hours a week, probably Wednesdays and Thursdays. It's possible Glee
will join it and move time slots so FOX can try a full two-hour block of comedies on Tuesdays with New Girl and Raising Hope joining two new ones. That leaves Bones
and possibly the new series The Mob Doctor
for Mondays and Fringe
for Fridays (in some configuration), with the Kevin Bacon serial killer drama taking over mid-season when Fringe
We'll know for sure next week when FOX reveals its full line-up for the 2012-2013 season.(Image courtesy of FOX)
