Grammy Award-winning singer Mariah Carey and rapper Nick Cannon may have said their “I dos” in secret, but the pop star is now happily sharing the details of her nuptials, which took place on April 30 at her private estate on Windermere Island in the Bahamas.
During her appearance on yesterday's episode of
The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Carey spilled the details of her beachside ceremony, but not before boasting the rock she has been sporting, which Cannon designed himself.
“We designed each other's rings,” Carey told host
Ellen DeGeneres.
The couple used a "video shoot" as an excuse for inviting friends out to the Bahamas for the beachside wedding, which was witnessed by only a few people.
"[It was] mostly people to do my hair and help me with my dress ... and three of my friends and he had three people with him," Carey said.
“We were telling everyone it was a video shoot…We wanted to be at the beach, we didn't want other people taking pictures, because we both experienced the hoopla of trying to make something into, like, a publicity stunt, which is what everybody thinks and will think anyway," she said. "We don't really care about that mentality. Instead of trying to be like, 'You're invited, but shhh, don't tell anybody,' we're just going to have another [wedding] next year. [Nick's] plan is to have one every year."
Carey and new husband Cannon exchanged more than vows at their wedding. They also got each other's names tattooed on their bodies. Cannon's tattoo is a large "Mariah" across his back, while hers is a small butterfly on her lower back that incorporates the letters "MC," which she said stood for "Mrs. Cannon." Of course, Ellen pointed out that if it the marriage fails, Mariah's tattoo will be much easier to cover since it could also stand the singer's initials.
