After being catapulted to the future in the upcoming
The Day the Earth Stood Still,
Keanu Reeves will be going back in time, now as a Japanese samurai in the epic period flick
42 Ronin.
The film, which is being penned by
Wanted scribe Chris Morgan, is based on the true story of a group of samurai swordsmen who avenged the death of their master in 1702. The film will tell a stylized version of the story, mixing in fantasy elements such as those seen in
The Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as gritty battle scenes akin to
Gladiator.
No timetable has been set for the film yet, although the intention is to start shooting next year, once a director has been hired.
