Kyra Sedgwick, who plays the enigmatic Brenda Johnson, deputy police chief of the LAPD on TNT's
The Closer , says she is nowhere near leaving the show, despite the amount of effort it takes to leave her family for six months to shoot a season.
"I feel like I've literally given away parts of my heart and soul to her," she says. "I make deep sacrifices to play her, but she's dear to me and I adore her and she does take over when I'm at work. It's an interesting out-of-body experience that I've never had before."

And it hasn't been for nil. With the deluge of cop shows, critics have singled out
on TNT's The Closer , says she is nowhere near leaving as an exception to the tendency of the type to fall into clichés and repetitiveness. Moreover, much had also been said about Sedgwick's performance as the captivatingly beautiful cop who is so good about doing her job but falls flat when it comes to her personal relationships. In addition, she says she didn't think the show will become a success in the first place.
The Closer's new season is set to debut on July 14 and Sedgwick maintains more personal struggles await her character. Meanwhile, series creator James Duff reveals the complexity and originality that they constantly want to inject on every episode.
"We are going to examine the issue of power, especially how much power we really have over our own lives," Duff says. "We live with the illusion that we are in control of our lives. The season will start with Brenda tracking an arsonist, while having a reporter follow her every move."
For her part, Sedgwick also has nothing but good things to say about the show's writing, which she describes as always out of the box and fresh.
"In just the first episode, for example, they dehydrate the hand of a burn victim and Brenda has to slip on that skin and make a prin. That's definitely something we've never done before.”
