Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) will once again be dropping the bomb on a suspect on tonight's episode of The Closer.  After last week's case that didn't allow her to escape conflicts with her squad, Brenda has to once more try to take control.  In “Live Wire,” she grapples with Fritz over the case, wherein a man is shot to death while wearing a surveillance wire. 

Downtown Los Angeles remains unsafe, as another installment of Brenda's life takes its toll.  Fans of the Brenda and Fritz (Jon Tenney) pairing might be having a bit of a fit upon seeing the increased tension between the two.  Other than their usual bickering, they have to face clashes related to their work.  The disagreements escalate, especially since both are truly devoted to their careers.  The only thing that could make things worse between them is the distractions they have to face, in the form of an L.A. journalist and the victim's past. 

Ricardo Ramos, from the show's season premiere, is the New York Times reporter causing problems for Brenda and Fritz.  Their investigation collides with the FBI's, and the victim's ties to a drug case leads them to even more peril and confusion. 

Guest stars for the episode are David Kelsey, Jackie Debatin, Kevin Rankin and Stephen Martines.  “Live Wire” follows the episode “Cherry Bomb” which showed Brenda and the team dealing with a rape charge, as well as a possibly fake suicide. 

Next on The Closer is the episode “Dial M for Provenza,” involving a sting operation gone awry.  It guest stars comedienne Jennifer Coolidge famed for the American Pie films. 

Directed by Rick Wallace, The Closer easily became one of television's most-watched shows.  It opened its fourth season with 7.8 million viewers, and became the 14th most popular show in the country. 

The Closer's fourth episode this season, “Live Wire,” will premiere tonight on TNT at 9pm.
