Robert Gossett Biography:
It was only after high school that Robert Gossett started acting professionally. It was for a production of One Flew Over a Cuckoo’s Nest and soon thereafter, Gossett began to rigorously pursue an acting career on stage. Fame was soon knocking on Gossett’s door as he starred in numerous plays, including Hal Scott’s A Raisin in the Sun and Donald McKayle’s The Last Minstrel Show. Gossett also joined the prestigious Negro Ensemble Company of New York, with whom he performed in its productions of Manhattan Made Me, Sons & Fathers of Sons, A Soldier’s Play and Colored People’s Time. Gossett has also been awarded a NAACP Theater Award for his work on Indigo Blues, a play written by his beloved wife, Michelle Gossett. As if Gossett wasn’t accomplished enough, in 2005, he joined the regular cast of the TNT drama, The Closer.
Commander Taylor on The Closer is played by Robert Gossett. Power-hungry Commander Taylor is the head of the LAPD Robbery/Homicide Unit. Taylor has worked hard in order to earn the position, but his own recklessness and perhaps egoistic approach to investigating has forced him to give up being head of the Priority Homicide Squad. He feels so much bitterness over the loss that he gives his replacement, Deputy Chief Brenda Johnson, a tough time. In the process, he is beginning to lose the respect and loyalty of his detectives.
