G.W. Bailey

G.W. Bailey Biography:

The world may forever remember G.W. Bailey as the egotistical Captain Thaddeus Harris on the highly successful Police Academy films, but aside from his natural ability to make people laugh, he has also made a tremendous impact as a dramatic actor. Bailey attended several schools before finally ending his academic pursuits with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theater from the Southwest Texas State University in 1994. While studying, he appeared in popular shows like Starsky and Hutch, Charlie’s Angel’s and M*A*S*H, making him the artist-in-residence in the university. He has done many more projects throughout the years, but his current acting job sees him playing yet another cop in the award-winning TNT hit, The Closer, only this time it’s not for laughs.

Detective Lieutenant Provenza, on the new crime drama The Closer, is played by G.W. Bailey. Provenza is a male chauvinist but lately has allowed himself to become more open to Chief Deputy Brenda Johnson. He is insensitive and has no trouble saying what he wants and when he wants, but what makes viewers sympathize with him is that he has slowly let his guard down. He is very traditional when it comes to work, and finds it difficult to accept more modern methods of investigation. Because he has been in the job for so long, he is hardly affected by the immoralities they encounter everyday.
