Kyra Sedgwick, star of drama series
The Closer, has earned yet another Emmy nomination for her acclaimed crime drama series. Interestingly, she had to learn about her nomination in front of an audience when she, along with actor
Jon Cryer, announced the nominees for the upcoming 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards yesterday, July 19, at the Academy's Leonard H. Goldenson Theatre.
"It was kind of nauseating. Beforehand I thought this is torturous why did I decide to do this? But it was also very exciting," Sedgwick described the experience after learning her nomination for the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Sedgwick, who currently plays Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson on
The Closer, has already won a Golden Globe award, two Satellite Awards, and one Gracie Allen Award for her portrayal of the lead character. Although she hasn’t won any Emmy’s yet, this is her second time to be included as a contender following her nomination last year.
The Closer actress is up against contenders such as
Patricia Arquette for playing Alison Dubois on
Medium,
Minnie Driver for playing Dahlia Malloy on
The Riches, and
Sally Field for playing Nora Walker on
Brothers & Sisters, among others.
Meanwhile, other nominees are also ecstatic about their inclusion on the Emmy list.
Ugly Betty’s
America Ferrera, who already earned a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for portraying lead character Betty Suarez, has earned yet another nomination.
"It is really wonderful and exciting for a lot of reasons but especially because this is the first time ever that a Latina has been nominated in this category for lead actress for an Emmy. It goes beyond just excitement for me,” Ferrera said.
As for
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who stars on
The New Adventures of Old Christine, she intends to celebrate her Emmy nomination in style.
"I actually just got off a plane in Paris and the message was on machine. We were giving each other high fives in the baggage claim and all the French people were looking at us like what are those Americans doing,” she said. "We already had a glass of champagne and later we are going to go up the Eiffel Tower."
The actual awarding ceremony will be held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California on Sunday, September 16 and will be aired on FOX at 8pm.
