The hit drama series,
The Closer, is adding another name to its cast list.
Actor
Barry Corbin, made popular by his portrayal of Maurice Minnifield on
Northern Exposure, has been cast in the role of Clay Johnson, father of the unmerciful and serious Brenda Leigh Johnson, played by
Kyra Sedgwick. Corbin’s character is “a retired military officer who owns auto-parts stores in the metro Atlanta area.”

Aside from his work on Northern Exposure, Corbin has also gained some recognition for his appearance on the hit teen drama series, One Tree Hill. On the show, Corbin plays Brian “Whitey” Durham, the former coach of Tree Hill high’s basketball team, The Ravens. Corbin’s other television credits include Dallas, Reba, Lonesome Dove, The Thorn Birds and M*A*S*H. He has also appeared on a number of big screen productions, namely The Dukes of Hazzard, Nothing in Common, WarGames, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Urban Cowboy, Six Pack and Who’s Harry Crumb?
A native of Lamesa, Texas, Corbin launched his acting career by performing in several Shakespearean productions. He received his training in theater from Texas Tech.
His upcoming role on The Closer has him paired with Frances Sternhargen, who plays his wife and Brenda Leigh’s mother on the show. The 66-year-old actor and Sternhargen will appear on episodes 10 (to be aired on August 20th), 11, 14 and 15.
Meanwhile, another drama series is welcoming a new addition to their cast. Peter Facinelli, who is known for his work on Can’t Hardly Wait, Six Feet Under and Fastlane, has taken on a recurring role on the FX network’s legal drama, Damages, which is headlined by Academy Award nominee Glenn Close.
The Closer will air its third season premiere, "Home Wrecker," on Monday, June 18th. The episode was directed by Michael M. Robin and written by Mike Berchem and James Duff.
