'The Bold and the Beautiful' Actor Up for NAACP Image Award
Wednesday, February 06, 2008

Back in December, we reported on how Mykel Shannon Jenkins, winner of season 1 of SOAPnet's I Wanna Be A Soap Star, was upbeat despite his character's demise on General Hospital.  Since then, he's found another gig as Detective Charlie Baker on another daytime drama, The Bold and the Beautiful.

It seems his positive attitude and dogged determination are now paying off, with a nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series at the 39th Annual NAACP Image Awards.

The NAACP Image Awards recognize projects and individuals that promote diversity in the arts such as in television, literature, movies and music.  With Jenkins' nomination, The Bold and the Beautiful has been cited a total of five times since 1993, when the series was nominated for Outstanding Daytime Drama.  In 1999, actor-musician Usher was also recognized with a nomination for his portrayal of Raymond.  Finally, model-turned-actor Antonio Sabato received back-to-back nominations in 2006 and 2007, for his role as Dante on The Bold and the Beautiful.

As Detective Baker, Mykel Shannon Jenkins figured prominently in last year's story arc surrounding Stephanie Forrester's (Susan Flannery) shooting.  Jenkins was recognized by the NAACP for his performances in the scenes where he and his onscreen father, Dan Martin as Lt. Bradley Baker, investigated their suspects and looked into their possible motives for wanting to kill Stephanie.

The 39th Annual NAACP Image Awards are scheduled to air Thursday, February 14 on FOX.

In other news, Winsor Harmon, who plays Thorne Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful, has acquired the services of Paid, Inc. to manage his online presence globally.  Having been a mainstay of the popular CBS soap for over a decade, Harmon has become one of the daytime drama's most well-loved cast members.

“Winsor is one of the most recognized television stars in the world,” Harmon's representative, Frank Cimler, explained.  “Due to the insatiable appetite fans have for anything related to Winsor, we've selected Paid, Inc. celebrity services to help us organize and manage our relationship with the fans.  The new ecommerce platform through Paid will provide the perfect channel to market Winsor's clothing line, fan experience packages and merchandise directly to his multitude of fans.  We're currently in discussions with Paid regarding a series of special appearances and Winsor's new Bambino Goth line of baby clothing that will launch in 2008 via his new web site.”
