In just a few short weeks,
The Biggest Loser will return to NBC with a new crop of contestants looking to lose weight and change their lives. Last season, the show changed things up a bit with players competing as couples – people in romantic or family relationships. Building on the success of last season, The Biggest Loser returns with a Families edition, premiering Tuesday, September 16th at 8pm ET. Today, executive producer Mark Koops and host
Alison Sweeney participated in a conference call to reveal some season 6 details.
The Biggest Loser: Families will begin with "four teams of husbands and wives versus four teams of parents and their children,” Koops told reporters. "We really wanted to keep it the core family, keep it the nuclear family," he continued. "I think there's a lot of takeaway for everybody who's watching the show to take back and use it in their own family's lives."
The sixth season of the show was originally supposed to be another couples edition but NBC announced in April that
The Biggest Loser would do a families edition instead. However, the show hasn’t ruled out the idea of going back to the couples format in the future. "We will definitely revisit it, seeing families in the future. But I think equally with the seasons coming back-to-back -- with the finale of this season being December 16 and the premiere in early January of Season 7 -- we'd like to put a fresh take on it," Koops said in the conference call.
Alison Sweeney will be forced to put her hosting duties on hold to take on another role: motherhood. "I'm definitely planning on working as much as I can all the way up through until the last minute. Mark always teases me because I'm extremely optimistic about how long I'll be able to stay," she said. "A lot of it is because I'm such a fan. I love being there with them, I love seeing their progress." Though she wants to be there, she realizes that, soon enough, it just won’t be possible and the show is prepared for that. "Obviously Mark and the network had to prepare," she said. "I'll be MIA for a portion of it and they have plans for that." This will be the second child for Sweeney and her husband, David Sanov.
