As reported by BuddyTV in May, NBC will be bringing us
The Biggest Loser: Families, the family edition of the weight-loss reality series that will kick off this coming fall. While we were informed that the program will return with two-hour episodes at 8pm after
America's Got Talent ends its run, no premiere date was announced. Last week, however, the network finally set a date for the highly anticipated sixth season of
The Biggest Loser.
Beginning Tuesday, September 16, fans can catch
The Biggest Loser: Families as it features teams consisting of two family members each, with the minimum age requirement being 18-years-old.
The Biggest Loser, for those who are not familiar, is a show where in overweight contestants compete to win $250,000 by losing the highest percentage of their starting body weight, while their trainers are also motivated to “push” their respective contestants by a predetermined bonus structure, with the winning contestant's trainer taking home $100,000.
Filming for the sixth season of
The Biggest Loser is underway. As expected,
Alison Sweeney, best known for her role as Sami on
Days of our Lives, will reprise her hosting role for
The Biggest Loser: Families, which will also include the return of fifth season trainers
Jillian Michaels and
Bob Harper. Unfortunately, former trainer
Kim Lyons will not return to the show this season.
Initially,
The Biggest Loser: Families was intended to serve as a lead in for
Kath & Kim, the new half-hour sitcom starring former
Saturday Night Live comedian Molly Shannon and actress Selma Blair. However, that is no longer the case. As an alternative,
The Biggest Loser: Families will now serve as the lead in for
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which will fill in the Tuesday 10pm ET/PT slot beginning September 23.
Kath & Kim, on the other hand, will now air every Thursday at 8:30pm ET/PT starting October 9.
