Exclusive Interview: Amy Zimmer of 'The Biggest Loser'
Friday, November 16, 2007

Every season of a reality show needs a few villains to keep things interesting.  On this season of The Biggest Loser, they came in the forms of Neil Tejwani and Amy Zimmer.  Though she doesn't feel that was portrayed accurately, Amy is just glad that people know who she is.  Early in the season, she turned on one of her teammates, voting her out.  Midway through, she decided to stop working with her trainer, Kim.  On this past week's episode, she officially changed into a black t-shirt, working with Jillian.  Today, Amy spoke to BuddyTV about her time on the show.  Read on to find out if she has any regrets and what she thinks of her fellow players, like Neil and Kae.

Below, you will find the transcript and mp3 of the interview.

Hey, everybody. This is Gina from BuddyTV, and I'm talking to Amy from NBC's The Biggest Loser. Well, I'm wondering if you watched previous seasons of The Biggest Loser and how you ended up becoming a part of season 4.

I have watched past seasons of The Biggest Loser, and actually, watching the last season was what got me to try out for season 4. It was the commercials that they were having promoting open casting calls around the country. And there was one not too far in the future and I ended up flying to New York for an open casting call.

Now, was there always an issue with you and Kim? Or, did the rift start during that episode when she said that she thought you should go home?

No, it really started during that week when she said that she thought I should go home. It really didn't start before that. You know, it's hard to be around somebody that you don't really know, and as far as any big rift between the two of us, no, not until that .

When you tried to hand back your shirt, she said that you would end up regretting this decision, but did you regret leaving the red team?

No. Not even a little bit. That's Kim thinking of Kim. Absolutely not. Leaving the red team was the best choice, not because of the team because the team was great. Leaving Kim was the best decision I made.

What was it about Jillian's personality that really drew you to her over, say, going to Bob?

I think that just seeing how she was with her girls and knowing that she wasn't going to take anything from me but my best, and knowing that I wanted to be there as long as I could and that I needed to step ... I don't want to say step it up because, regardless of what you see on TV, every single person that was there worked their butts off. But I just knew that Jillian could really maximize my potential.

It seems like maybe Neil is done playing the games that he was playing earlier, but did you have an opinion on when he gained all that weight? And, what did you think of his game play?

Neil has played the game from day one. And I played the game from day one. I knew exactly what Neil was doing. Everybody in the house knew exactly what Neil was doing except for the black team.

When you watch the show back, do you feel like you are portrayed accurately, that's just who you are?

I don't think that I'm portrayed accurately at all, but you can't erase that and now it's just funny. But whatever, because I try to look at it from the standpoint that I got a lot more TV time than other people who have been on the show, so hey, at least everybody who is a fan of The Biggest Loser knows who Amy is. They might not know who some of the other people are. But I definitely, definitely have been made out to be the bad guy and drama queen. It definitely wasn't like that. Everybody got along. Except at elimination night and weigh-in night, it really was pretty much just like a big family because everyone was there, working on the same goals.

And were you aware of Kae's opinions of you, especially when you two were teamed up as a duo?

Well, I knew that, I could tell by her facial expressions right off when we got put into duos that she wasn't happy being with me. And, we had heart-to-heart conversations ... that we're going to really work hard and give it our all. I thought that we were on the same page as far as everything. And we had a great time in the challenge, we worked great together. And I hope we can put this down: the fact that I lost nine pounds that week. I don't know that we wouldn't have gone to elimination the week before, but I feel like I saved our duo. And then for her to turn around and speak about me like that....people have to look at her. She's definitely entitled to her opinion, but I think that Kae kind of has been getting big about the success that she had had there. I think that maybe coming down to it, if she had to pick me or Bryan, she was closer friends with Bryan than she was with me.

Well, since you've been home, you've lost 100 pounds and you look great. What was life like when you transitioned out of the game and back into real life?

It was easier than I thought it was going to be. I walked back in the door from being away for three months and it was kind of like, okay. But it really wasn't too hard. My husband and my whole family has been very supportive with me when I tried to get back into the exercise, and I had no problems transitioning my family to eating healthier. Obviously, having a two and four-year-old, trying to make food that they're gonna be able to eat, and then my husband and I eat healthy food, which he's had no problem with because he's always had a healthy lifestyle. So it really hasn't been that bad. The biggest challenge has been to find time to fit in all the exercise.

Well, we can't wait to see you on the live finale. And I just wanted to thank you for your time.

Thank you.
