Exclusive Interview: Jez Luckett of 'The Biggest Loser'
Wednesday, October 24, 2007

On last night's episode of The Biggest Loser, black team member Jez Luckett won a card game that gave him the power to divide the contestants into four trios.  He chose to align himself with arguably the biggest male and female threats in the game, Neil and Isabeau.  What he didn't know was that the blue team had a plan to get him out, which was carried out by Neil.  He pulled one of the dirtiest moves ever in Biggest Loser history, drinking two gallons of water right before weigh in so that he would gain weight - 17 pounds to be exact!  This left his team in last place and the blue team stuck together, and got their trios to vote out Jez instead of Neil.  Today, BuddyTV spoke to Jez, who was surprisingly okay with the events that went down on The Biggest Loser campus.  Keep reading to hear his thoughts!

Below, you will find the complete transcript and mp3 of the interview.

Hey everybody, this is Gina from BuddyTV and I’m talking with Jez, the latest contestant eliminated from NBC’s The Biggest Loser. Well, let’s start with last night's episode. We did a poll on BuddyTV and 90% of the readers felt like Neil should have been eliminated for what he did. What do you think about that?

I think that’s about 10% from being true. It was tough. It was tough seeing it again, I guess. I think what happened, happened for a reason. I’ve had a great experience since then. I would have loved to stay on the show a little longer but, in hindsight, I’ve had just as much success if not more off the campus. I’m thankful for the journey that I’ve endured since leaving. Part of me would love to just rehash the past and kind of be concerned with what should have, could have, or would have been; but at the end of the day what happened, happened and Neil made a decision he thought he needed to make to stay in the game and it worked to his advantage.

Were you surprised that the blue team ended up standing by him?

No. Not at all because, they were all in it. The black team kind of entered the entire game as kind of a stepchild. And I think the fact that we had continued success was very intimidating to the blue and red teams, and their trainers. Honestly, they felt like they needed to make a power move if they wanted to stay in the game, which was probably not a bad decision.

Now given the choice to be on any of the teams in the game, are you glad that you ended up on the black team with Jillian?

There is no other team that I should have been on, you know? And so hindsight again, I mean, I was so frustrated at first when I didn’t get picked, but the universe has a way of playing out the way it needs to be. And that goes the same for not getting picked, and Jillian was a match made in heaven and exactly the trainer that I needed. She helped push me, she helped build a foundation that I needed through this journey, up until now. So yeah, the black team is who I am and who I will always be. So, definitely. I love that I was a black team member.

In the last two seasons that Kim has been on the show as a trainer, she’s had complete meltdowns with her members; David and Amy decided to train with Jillian. Is there anything that could have made you jump ship to another trainer?

There’s no reason for me to jump ship to another trainer. Outside of the fact that Jillian Michaels has the most success in Biggest Loser history, she was the most genuine regarding out entire transformation. You know you can be consumed with the idea of losing weight for a TV show and your image as far as America sees you, as America’s sweetheart ... but that doesn’t really mean that you’re investing the most into the peoples lives that you’re training.

And honestly, without stepping on too many toes if I haven’t already, Jillian cared the most about her people. And she really wanted to have us have the real emotional, spiritual transformation just as much as the physical. And that’s really what you need if you intend on keeping this weight off, because anybody can run 6 hours on a treadmill and eat a low calorie diet and lose a lot of weight; but unless you’re hitting the real issues that got you to being obese, then it’s all for not. And I felt Jillian really took the time to help us realize how we had gotten to the place we’ve gotten.

Now since you’ve left the show you’ve lost over 100lbs. When you first left and got back to real life, was it challenging for you to adjust?

Honestly, it was a lost less challenging than I would have ever imagined. The circuit had already been switched in my brain and I was just ready to go for it. That’s not to say that there are times where it gets really tough, but my mind had been made and I was going for it all out. So, as far as my diet and the physical and my training, I feel that my intensity increased since leaving the show. I had a little bit more to prove I guess, and doing it on your own you don’t always have the support I guess of being secluded on a campus and a wonderful trainer. So I have had to take support and a wonderful trainer since leaving the show.

And when you leave the show, do you still get to stay in touch with Jillian?

Yes. We have contact email and phone calls. She’s a busy bee and so I don’t get to hear from her as much as I would like to, but just the fact that she built that foundation so strongly ... I’ve been able to get along with just her long distance support and love. I love that woman to the ends of the earth.

And are you looking forward to coming back for the live finale?

Oh, I’m SO looking forward to it. I miss everyone. It was a wonderful experience that a lot of people don’t have the opportunity to have, and so I’m bonded to those people for life. It’s going to be such a great time for celebration and to be happy for people who have endured and undergone a wonderful transformation.

Well, we can’t wait to see you at the finale and what changes you’ve made since we saw you on the show. And I just wanted to thank you for your time.

Oh, you’re absolutely welcome. Thank you.

* CORRECTION: Once the interview was posted on BuddyTV's site, Biggest Loser contestant David Griffin emailed us to let us know that, even though the episode hinted otherwise, he has stayed loyal and continues to train with Kim Lyons.  "Thanks for understanding my passion for Kim as she is the reason I am where I am," he told BuddyTV.
