Looking back at the season, we immediately saw Leonard's interest in Penny despite Sheldon's belief that his friend is chasing a dream he'll never catch. Leonard fell head over heels for Penny within seconds of spotting her though it is not apparent if Penny every returned Leonard's affections. It was clear, however, that she at least seems to enjoy Leonard's company, and rather dislikes Sheldon. Though at one point, Leonard decided to ask Penny out to dinner, the “date” unfortunately turned into a disaster as Leonard does not get the confidence to reveal his true feelings to Penny.
In tonight's season finale, Leonard finally gets the courage to ask Penny out on a real date when she breaks up with her boyfriend. This time, Penny says yes. While they each seek the wisdom of reluctant advisors in preparation for the big date night, Leonard practices the date the day before with the guys.
