The latest offering from producers Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, The Big Bang Theory, has generated some hype with its round of positive reviews instigated by its premise and more importantly, its pilot episode.  Spectators can find out what the buzz is all about when CBS launches its new sitcom tonight at 8:30pm ET/PT, following the return of How I Met Your Mother.

Directed by James Burrows, The Big Bang Theory stars Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Sheldon (Jim Parsons) as two young, stereotypical nerds in their 20s who understands how the universe works, but doesn't have a clue when it comes to relationships and women.

Sheldon and Leonard are roommates who are quite content in spending their nights hanging out with their socially dysfunctional geeky friends, Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) and Rajesh Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar).  But all this begins to change when a free-spirited beauty named Penny (Kaley Cuoco) moves in next door in the pilot episode.

As Leonard and Sheldon meet the outgoing Penny, the brainiacs realize how little they know about life and see a whole new universe of possibilities, including love.  Leonard is immediately interested in her, but Sheldon feels his friend is chasing a dream that will never turn into reality.

Apart from the principle cast, the season opener of The Big Bang Theory will also feature guest stars, Brian Patrick Wade and Vernee Watson.

Wade, who is set to play Kurt, has appeared on television series like The Closer, Two and a Half Men, and Twenty Good Years, while Watson, who is cast to portray Althea, is known for her roles on The Young and the Restless and on Days of our Lives.

Catch new episodes of The Big Bang Theory every Monday at 8:30pm on CBS.
