Richard Mathy seemed to be a frontrunner on season 4 of
The Bachelorette. A high school teacher from New York, he captured
DeAnna’s interest on the first night and received a first impression rose. Soon after, though, DeAnna’s focus shifted onto other men, like
Jeremy,
Jason, and
Graham. Richard was left by the wayside but was given one last chance to form a connection with the bachelorette. On a one on one date, she just wasn’t feeling it anymore and stopped mid-date to send him home. Yesterday, Richard participated in a conference call with the press and the science teacher dished on his lack of chemistry with DeAnna.

I'd be happy to pick up where DeAnna left off...Richard was the best man in the house!!
As if it wasn’t bad enough to get dumped by DeAnna, Richard had to watch it play out again on national television. "Monday was kind of like watching a really bad horror flick,” he admitted. “You knew that the guy should not go in the basement and he just goes in the basement anyway and he still acts surprised when he gets killed.”
Mathy was slightly concerned about his job security when applying for the show. The school he works for has a morality clause but Mathy said, “The more I got going with the show, the less I thought about it.” He held off from telling his students but when he finally came clean, they took it a lot better than he expected. "The kids were actually really great... They all supported me. Even the day after I was dismissed, they were really great about it," he said. "I did let them know that hanging out in the house is very similar to teaching 25 freshmen."
Despite being sent home early, Mathy said that he wishes the best for DeAnna. He felt that was making the right decisions for her and that their chemistry can’t be forced. “You pretty much go out there, you show her who you are, she shows you who she is, and if it clicks it clicks. If it doesn't it doesn't. That's the idea of the show,” he said.
Mathy is still single and looking and joked that he heard Carried Underwood is in the same boat. "If anybody knows her number and wants to send it my way, that's cool,” he laughed.
Who would you rather go on a date with?
