Last night on The Bachelor, pilot Jake Pavelka let go of Corrie Adamson--the virgin who, despite leaving rose-less, kept her flower firmly intact--and narrowed down his quest for a wife to four finalists: Tenley Molzahn, Gia Allemand, Vienna Girardi and Ali Fedotowsky.
Next Monday, Jake will travel to each woman's hometown for a visit with her family, an adventure that is sure to take each reality-TV romance "to the next level." (Whatever
that means.)
Who is leading the race to win Jake's heart, and who is on the brink of a lonely limo ride back to the airport? Which
Bachelor hometown dates are poised for happiness and family bliss, and which are just disasters waiting to happen?
Below, check out my latest Bachelor Co-Pilot Power Rankings to find out!
1. Tenley
The Good: On their date this week, Jake was once again smitten with Tenley's positive attitude and always-smiling energy. She's honest and unafraid to put herself out there, and Jake responds well to her values and expectations for marriage. They have a similar communication style, and Tenley seems to genuinely adore Jake's "golly gee whiz" polite cowboy vibe.
The Bad: Despite her honest self-assessments about being ready to give love another go, Jake doesn't seem convinced that Tenley is truly "over" her divorce, and thanks to his insistence on always bringing it up in conversation, her past heartbreak hovers over their interactions like a ghost that might haunt their relationship forever.
Hometown: Newberg, OR
Hometown Horror or Hometown Happiness? Country boy Jake will love Oregon's relaxed, outdoor-oriented feel. And if Tenley's parents are anything like her, Jake is in for a warm, but emotional reception from them. But he should be prepared for some tough questions from her dad, who will not want his little girl to get hurt like she did in the past.
2. Ali
The Good: Ali made Jake feel as comfortable as possible on their San Francisco date, and she also made clear that she trusts him enough to let him make his own decisions about Vienna. Of all the girls, Ali exudes the most confidence when she's with Jake, and as a result they interact like an established couple, and he seems most at ease when she's around.
The Bad: Jake has already expressed concerns about Ali's jealousy towards Vienna, and her (over-)dedication to her job. He wants an old-fashioned girl who will have his back no matter what. When it comes down to it, Ali may not be willing to sacrifice her freedom and strong opinions for Jake.
Hometown: Williamstown, MA
Hometown Horror or Hometown Happiness? This small college town tucked in the northwest corner of Massachusetts shouldn't be too much of a culture-shock for Jake, but if Ali's family members (which include a brother and a sister, I think) are as cautious and intelligent as she is, they will have plenty of questions about this couple's compatibility, and whether Texan Jake is the right guy for their daughter who is establishing an exciting career in San Francisco.
3. Gia
The Good: Jake sometimes has a hard time articulating his feelings, but he's got plenty to say about Gia's good qualities, from her kind heart all the way out to her gorgeous (swimsuit modeling) body. To top it off, she's just as into him as he is into her, and they share lots of physical chemistry.
The Bad: Gia's clearly insecure about Jake's feelings towards her (though it's hard to see why), and has expressed her fear of being vulnerable. When it comes down to it, Jake may decide to cut her if he feels her pulling away from him while the other women continue to come on so strong.
Hometown: New York, NY
Hometown Horror or Hometown Happiness? It may finally occur to Jake that he and Gia really do come from "different worlds" when he visits NYC, a revelation that will only be reinforced by Gia's parents. Judging from the episode preview, Gia's mother is nothing like her soft-spoken daughter, and will put up with nothing but the best for "her Gia." Will opposites continue to attract under all this pressure? We'll see...
4. Vienna
The Good: Jake is finally owning up to the fact that it's no accident Vienna is still here: he's really,
really into her, and she makes him feel like he's the only guy in the world. Despite her bad relations with the other girls, Vienna knows just how to play on Jake's heartstrings. For better or for worse,
she's unexpected, exciting
, and challenging to Jake... and he seems to see it as "for better."
The Bad: Does Jake really want to live his life defending his final choice to the world? Does he really want to commit to footing the bill on Vienna's "princess" lifestyle? Will Vienna's "exciting" and "challenging" attitude eventually start to annoy him? These are questions Jake must answer for himself. But the fact that so many questions about Vienna's character have been brought up at all is a big red flag Jake can't ignore forever.
Hometown: Sanford, FL
Hometown Horror or Hometown Happiness? Jake is finally going to meet Vienna's "daddy," the veritable king of her sunny, spoiled kingdom. Judging from the episode preview, the king is not going to disappoint: he point-blank tells Jake that Vienna needs to be treated "like a princess," with an already-disapproving tone. The hometown visit is sure to test this relationship: will Jake storm the castle like a determined prince, or concede the prize, showing he never wanted her that badly in the first place?
