Nothing surprising here. Another couple from ABC's
The Bachelor has decided to call it quits, bringing the
Bachelor-Bachelorette track record officially down to four out of 18 couples still together, with only one of those having led to a real marriage. This time, according to
Us Weekly, it's Byron Velvick and Mary Delgado.
Velvick, a champion pro bass fisherman and divorced father, was the star of
The Bachelor's sixth season, which aired in 2004. He chose contestant Maribel Liliana "Mary" Delgado, who was also a contestant during the series' fourth season, and popped the question during the finale. After they became engaged, Delgado joined Velvick's tour and learned the sport, and is now a competing angler in her own right.
For some people, though, the chances of seeing Velvick and Delgado walk down the aisle got slimmer by the minute after reports of their rocky relationship surfaced the news. Three years after getting engaged on
The Bachelor, Delgado was arrested in Tampa on charges of battery. Delgado allegedly punched Velvick in the mouth, causing his upper lip to bleed, and was under the influence of alcohol when she was arrested. The couple later told reporters that despite the incident, they were still engaged and happy together.
"Just because you met on a reality show, got engaged on this beautiful incredible setting doesn't mean that we're Prince Charming or Beautiful Princess," he said at the time, according to
Us Weekly. "It's nothing like that. It's just a real couple going through real things."
Meanwhile, the news season of
The Bachelor, starring commercial pilot Jake Pavelka, is set to premiere on January 4 on ABC. Do you think Jake will be able to find love on the show or will he fail like the rest?
