The premiere episode of
The Amazing Race was last night and it didn't disappoint. This is one of the best reality shows in terms of casting. We got to meet the 11 new teams and there's someone for everyone to cheer for.
Who stood out last night? Why the asses, of course. The two-legged and the four-legged variety were on display and the four-legged variety won. Ari described himself in his CBS biography as "mean, rude and hilarious” and I guess he fit the bill. He and his partner Staella began the race being nasty and laughing about it and bragging about how they were going to play. Well, sorry, guys ... game over.

Ari came up against something meaner and ruder than he was - the donkey. When he and Staella got mad because the donkey wouldn't go, he uttered that if they lost because of the donkey that he was gonna cut it up and eat it. Donkeys have souls, too, you know.
Jennifer and Nathan were the 10th team to step on the mat. I was up in the air about which team I wanted to see leave first. Jennifer and Nathan were also a couple of badly-behaved people. They were difficult to watch in that they were nasty to each other as well as to everyone and everything. The way they kept referring to
Kynt and Vyxsin as “the Freaks” turned me off of them.
One of my favorite moments in the whole show was watching their donkey bray at them. It so looked like the donkey was cussing them out. I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard at that. They went from second to 10th at the whim of the donkey. The more frustrated they got, the harder I laughed.
When Phil first mentioned the donkeys, I just knew that they would have some impact on the finish. They are notoriously stubborn and some of the personalities of the contestants were bound to clash. Were these two donkeys the most cantankerous donkeys in Ireland? Or would
Ari and Staella and Nathan and Jennifer have finished last with any of the animals?
The Amazing Race 12 is off to a great start and the MVPs of episode 1? The donkeys, of course!
