I saw a promo for the finale of
The Amazing Race, and I did not expect to hear Katy Perry's "Waking Up in Vegas" on it. Then again, I should have. They're going to Vegas!
It's the final leg, and only three teams remain to race towards the finish line, and towards the million dollars. While American legs look easy, it's always the one where all the stress accumulated in the past few legs come in and make their presence strongly felt. So, in their quest to count poker chips and look for "Mr. Las Vegas"--let me guess: Elvis impersonator?--for that one last clue, they will buckle. Maybe. Which one, then?
Meghan and Cheyne? The current front-runners have been holding on to the first spot for most of the race, thanks to a Fast Forward in Dubai. They've run a pretty strong race, never making critical mistakes, although they've had their share of (minor) meltdowns. Those meltdowns aren't that much, really. The most annoying has been Meghan going "Cheyne! Cheyne! Cheyne!" repeatedly.
Sam and Dan? Running a close second, they've gotten here on willpower--specifically, their aim to overtake who they perceive as the strongest team. While their race has been more of an up and down, they've kept their ground and even got to first place, even if it means doing relatively devious tactics. Well, nothing more devious than their annoying arguments.
Brian and Ericka? This celebrity team defied my expectations and made it this far. (Sorry, poker players.) Then again, it's a very hard trip here: they were barely saved last week because of that penalty, and they've been making all these mistakes. They should've been eliminated, but their strategy of playing fair has paid off in a supernatural way. Karma has been forgiving of Ericka's nagging.
One of these three will make it to the finish line first. Any guesses? Fantasy TV's still up until Sunday afternoon, and then we can all go watch the season finale of
The Amazing Race. That's tonight from 8pm on CBS--well, provided nothing else happens before that.
