The Amazing Race: All-Stars - Episode 7 Quick Thoughts
The Amazing Race: All-Stars - Episode 7 Quick Thoughts
We've got a special 2-hour Amazing Race tonight.  Why?  Who knows?  The more Amazing Race the better, as far as I'm concerned.  What follows are my quick thoughts while watching tonight's epic installment.

Man, I forgot how lucky Charla and Mirna got last week.

Teri and Ian didn't deserve their elimination last week.  I never like it when randomly getting slected for flights is the reason for a team's loss.  But, whatever.  It still makes for entertaining TV.

I want to go to Zanzibar.

Joe and Bill are almost half a day behind Charla and Mirna.  I'm guessing they'll catch up on the plane ride.

And they're going to Warsaw, Poland.

Hmm, every team has been booked a flight to Poland by the producers, but they don't have to use it.  I like this system.

Poland is not a very sexy destination.  One of the Beauty Queens thought Chopin was (possibly) still alive.

Wow, the Beauty Queens completely screw Uchenna and Joyce.  Uchenna was on the phone with a travel agent, but the Queens were actually there in person and convinced the agent to hang up the phone.

Quite a game of mixing and matching flights.  Dustin and Kandice look to be the only ones able to find a flight that arrives before the one that all the teams have.

Danielle thinks Polish girls are blonde and have pig tails.

Ozwald, Danny, Charla and Mirna are spending all day at the travel agency.  They finally find a flight that gets their before the provided flight, but a little bit after Uchenna and Joyce.  It goes from Johannesburg to Nairobi to Amsterdam to Warsaw.

Eric and Danielle are doing some serious arguing/bickering.

Team Guido and Eric/Danielle are the only teams on the provided flight.  Their connecting plane (in Kilimanjaro) isn't letting them on.  Joe and Bill do their best to yell and intimidate the Kilimanjaro airport employees, but we cut to commercial before the situation resolves itself.

Back from commercial and Bill has lost it, yelling at the airplane.

Danielle is flipping out.  All four go to a hotel for the night, with the first flight out at 6AM.

For those interested, Warsaw is translated in Polish as Warsau.

Uchenna and Joyce don;t show up in Frankfurt in time to get on the connecting to Warsaw.  Unfortunate.  This season has turned into mostly airport footage.

Dustin and Kandice are the first to arrive in Warsaw, soon followed by Charla, Mirna, Ozwald and Danny.

Detour time.  Options are based on Chopin and Marie Curie.   Kind of.  Only in name, really.

Dustin thinks she can do the Chopin option, because she's been playing piano since she was 9.  Nothing hotter than a beauty queen playing the piano.  Take my word for it.

The Chopin task has a guy mis-tune a note on the piano.  Then the team has to find the key and then use a tool to tune the key back to where it should be.

Apparently, the Polish are scared of little people.  Charla and Mirna can't get anyone to help them.

Well, then.  Dustin and Kandice make it to the pit stop as the first team, only a half-hour into this two-hour episode.  I'm guessing we'll have this first pit-stop as a non-elimination leg, and then have a cliffhanger at the end of the second hour.  So, two hours and no eliminations.

Uchenna and Joyce get horribly lost trying to find the guy dressed as Chopin.

Charla and Mirna are clueless trying to tune the piano.  They are collectively tone deaf.

Everyone is choosing to tune the piano.  Inexplicable.  The other task (carrying a mannequin and getting it x-rayed) sounds a million times easier.

Ozwald and Danny kind of get their piano note in tune, but the guy relents and gives them their clue.

Charla and Mirna give up on the piano, head for the mannequins.

The mannequins are members of the Aryan Nation.

Charla and Mirna hate Poland and the people who live there.

Ozwald and Danny come in second.

Charla and Mirna finally find a helpful, English-speaking Pole(?) to to give them directions.

Uchenna and Joyce get their piano in tune.  They come in third.

Guido and Eric/Danielle finally make it into Warsaw, more than half a day behind the other teams.

Wow.  This is a first, I think.

Dustin and Kandice are starting the next leg while two teams are still on the previousl leg.

The first destination is Auschwitz.  That should be fun (sarcasm).

This is crazy.

Eric and Danielle go head-to-head with the Guidos.  If the producers had a heart, they'd make this a non-elimination leg.  These two teams have been traveling for over 30 straight hours.

Cool.  Guidos are doing the mannequin and Eric/Danielle are doing the piano.

Eric and Danielle look pretty clueless at the piano.

Guidos are having a tough time with the x-rays.

Yikes.  Eric and Danielle break a string.  But they get right back into it and quickly get it right.  They finish their part before the Guidos.

Eric and Danielle arrive before the Guidos, are the fifth team to arrive.

Oh yeah, Danny and Ozwald embark on the next leg.

The Guidos arrive in last, but, as I called it, it was a non-elimination leg.

Each team is getting on a different Charter Group tour.

Eric and Danielle continue to argue and annoy each other (and me).  They're arguin about cups of coffee.  They kind of hate each other.

Guido thinks they have more brain power than Eric/Danielle.  Ehh, the difference is probably negligble.

The teams arrive at Auschwitz.  The teams have the read a hitory of the camp when they arrive.  Over a million people died there.  Teams are crying.  It's all very emotional, as it rightly should be.

The teams just have to light a candle and do a personal memorial.

After Auschwitz, teams head 40 miles to Krakow, looking for a theater.

Ahh, it is an Intersection.  Two members of different teams have to work together.

This sucks for the Beauty Queens, because they have to wait for another team.  That would be Charla and Mirna, who are waaay behind the others.

Danny/Ozwald and Uchenna/Joyce have to count the steps in two different towers in Krakow.  This is actually the fast forward.  And they get it.  The next pit stop is a big castle.

The bottom three teams make it to Auschwitz.

Uchenna/Joyce and Ozwald/Danny tie for first place, but O/D let U/J to take the prize.

The Beauty Queens reluctantly join up at the intersection with Charla and Mirna.  It's a detour.  They can either make some sausage and two feet of it, or make some bagels and then deliver it somewhere.  They decide on the sausage.

The Guidos and Eric/Danielle decide to do the bagels.

The Queens and Charla and Mirna pray before eating their sausage,  They'll need it.  I don;t think Mirna has a big enough stomach for it.

Dustin finishes her sausage, then barfs all over the floor.  Mirna soon follows with the barfing.

Both teams finish at roughly the same time.  They now have to drive themselves to a little Polish town.

Charla and Mirna have a little bit of a tough time getting out of Krakow.  They try to higher a cab to follow, but the cabbie demands a lot of money and, when they won;t pay it, leaves in a huff.  Mirna tries to cry her way into the cabbie's heart, but he's having none of that.

The cabbie returns after the commercial and strikes a deal for 50 bucks.

Mirna yells at Charla for doing nothing.  Tensions are, as they say, running high.

The teams face a road block.  One member of each team has to put on a full suit of armor and lead a horse down a road to a stable boy.

Dustin and Kandice arrive first, followed by Charla and Mirna.  Little Charla decides to do the task. She faceplants on the road.  A brutal fall.

Charla is having a very hard time leading the horse while in the armor.  They arrive fourth though.

Team Guido arrive fifth, but were marked for elimination and get eliminated once Eric and Danielle show up.

So that's it.  Joe and Bill are eliminated.
