The Amazing Race All-Stars: Charla and Mirna make my brain hurt
Charla and Mirna, on The Amazing Race: All-Stars, have become almost unbearably annoying.  The two are best friends, Charla is a little person, Mirna is a boisterous lawyer, and the two have been shrieking their way through this current season.  I have no particularly bias towards little people.  Unfortunately, I haven't had the benefit of getting to know any little people in my life and, therefore, am still a little freaked out by them.  I'm sorry, it's true.  But, that is besides the point.  Even if Charla were a few feet taller, she'd still bother the hell out of me.

Their dual demeanor is one of overwhelming instability, time and again showing the capacity to flip out at a moment's notice.  They constantly melt down emotionally, yell at each other, yell at the other teams, and generally act like deranged, chemically unbalanced people.  Notice the level of stress that appears when any sort of wrench is thrown into their travel plans.  Notice how little prodding it takes to send either off on a tirade.  Notice how frustrated Mirna gets any time Charla's smallness adversely affects the team, as if she were previously unaware of her teammate's svelteness.  It'd be one thing if these were Charla and Mirna's normal reactions, but I don't think they are.  They're playing it up for the camera.

It has become quite clear to me that Charla and Mirna are blatantly lobbying for screen time with their antics.  The uber-dramatic nature of their team is hopelessly fake; no one acts so freaked on a moment's notice unless it is a conscious decision.  I might be able to buy their behavior if this was their first time on reality TV, but it's not.  They've been on the show before, but they certainly don't act like it.  Yeah, the other teams will occasionally flip out, but you can tell it's genuine.  With Charla and Mirna, it is constant, never a let up.

So what?  Well, I don't think they should have been cast.  Let's be honest, casting a team with a little person is pretty much a gimmick.  If they were more likable, I wouldn't be opposed to their presence, but all they do is get pissed off at each other and the other teams and then freak out when anything doesn't go their way.

What do you think?  Do you like Charla and Mirna?  Should they have been cast?  Who would you have liked to have seen on Amazing Race All-Stars instead?
