In the words of my favorite Canadian indie band, "it's all gonna break!" Seems
The Amazing Race this week is the week when everything goes right past the breaking point, and everybody tries to hold on. Maybe it was because I watched the show frustrated over other things, but it felt that all of the teams were just that close to going bonkers. Well, not really, because there was something good at the end, but still. Close to going bonkers.
Meghan and Cheyne arrived first at the pit stop in Mustpeade, and open their clues revealing their next destination: Prague, in the Czech Republic. Upon arrival, the teams have to go to the Old Town district and find a vintage Praga, which happens to be a car. But, of course, nobody knows about it. In the end, all four remaining teams were in the airport--unfortunately for the frontrunners the first flight out is not until 5am, so they all take the same flight--so it's a good time to figure out what a Praga is. Smart Meghan and Cheyne, they did that. Smart Globetrotters, they did that too.
Upon arrival, Brian and Ericka took the bus to the Old Town, because they were told in the plane that it's a much faster route. Alas, they were stuck in horrible traffic. The other three teams took taxis and found their destination, and Meghan and Cheyne would quickly reclaim the lead by finding the car first. Sam and Dan only found out what a Praga is when they saw the blues finding the car--I think they thought it was a jacket all along. No, that's a Prada. And is that even a jacket?
There was, by the way, a guy giving out a clue on the Praga, and by all means they all have to head to Kayaky Troja. It's a Detour. Choose Fast and Furious, and you have to kayak across a white water rafting course and getting a clue along the way; if you tip over, you have to get back to your kayak and start again. Choose Hangman, and you have to pull yourself along a rope course just above the kayaks, and get the clue at the end. Sam and Dan decided to do the rafts, while the other two teams decided to take it to the ropes. Brian and Ericka haven't been to the old car yet.
Sam and Dan were having a hard time with the rafts, and I can't help but laugh at their plight. (Sorry. I still don't like them.) They're doing two things while doing the Detour: argue about how to navigate the kayak, or get tossed over by the waves. It happened over and over again, I wondered if they ever got the message. Drama was also happening on the ropes, though: both teams were taking the task slowly, and Meghan and Cheyne finished first. However, they couldn't leave immediately since Flight Time, who's already finished the course, was taking a while to go down the platform. They think he's slowing them down on purpose. He insists they aren't, saying he's just tired from pulling himself across that he didn't want to rush.
After a few choice exchanges, Flight Time got down--much slower. No biggie, though, since Meghan and Cheyne still got the clue first, as Big Time took longer to get across the course, being tired and heavy and all. The clue, by the way, were two ribbons with words on it: they have to figure out that it brings them to the Estades Theatre. Oddly, Meghan invited the Globetrotters to follow them to the next clue, via train, which arrives in ten minutes--only for Cheyne to ditch them when he sees a taxi arrive. Meghan wasn't happy, but she didn't really have a choice. The Globetrotters took the train anyway.
Sam and Dan got tired of all the kayak-flipping, so they decided to switch tasks and do the ropes instead. At the same time, Brian and Ericka finally arrive via taxi, a lesson they should've learned from the airport. It wasn't really a close race between the two: the brothers amazingly got across even if they should be tired from the kayaks, while Brian had to wait for Ericka to get across. (Lesson two: don't fight while doing a rope course.) The brothers went down and spotted the couple's taxi, and they negotiated with the driver, begging that they get to go on it. Brian saw the two attempt to steal their taxi and started screaming. Should be motivation for Ericka to get across the ropes, right? No use, as the taxi driver budged with the offer of a bigger fare, and left with Sam and Dan in tow. Of course, Brian and Ericka were frustrated.
The Roadblock was for a racer who can keep grace under pressure. They have to look through hundreds of seats inside the theater for a mini mandolin, the same one Don Giovanni played. It's frustrating to try finding it in every nook and cranny of a huge theater; it's more frustrating when you factor in the guy who stands in for Don Giovanni sing some opera. And, for Big Easy, it was more frustrating hearing Meghan go "Cheyne, Cheyne, Cheyne" every single time.
Oh, and more annoying? Cheyne found an instrument first--the wrong one--and when he gives it to Don Giovanni, the dude gives this annoying smirk, gives this annoying laugh, and then says, "no". We get to see that many times, as there were violins and guitars and empty mandolin cases scattered around the theater. Still, Cheyne found the mandolin first, and were first to the pit stop: the Prague Castle, which is the oldest ancient castle in the world. They win a trip to Lanai, in beautiful Hawaii.
Sam and Dan got to the theater next, and found the mini mandolin pretty quickly--which sucks for Big Easy, because he found that mandolin first! The brothers finish the leg in second place. Big Easy eventually found his instrument, which sucks for Ericka, who now has to finish the task even if their elimination is very much inevitable. So much for Brian thinking she'd be able to cope with the pressure--she wouldn't look under the chairs, even!
The couple arrived at the pit stop in last place. Phil attempted a fake out, which worked: this leg, turns out, is a non-elimination leg. Surprise, surprise, we have three non-elimination legs in this race! That means Brian and Ericka will have to endure a Speed Bump in the next leg, but that also means they still have a fighting chance to make it to the final three. In other words, me calling this leg the penultimate leg was, well, wrong.
Next week on
The Amazing Race, the teams continue going around Prague, where phones are answered and drinks are spilled. More pressure points, yes.
