Car Troubles on The Amazing Race
If you saw last night's episode of The Amazing Race, you witnessed the worst display of transportation failure the long-running show has ever seen. A number of teams had some form of trouble with the automobile provided for them by the show's producers (the vehicles looked like miniature Hummers, but were suspiciously unmarked). Granted, Outer Mongolia is not known for it's highways or transportation, but what happened last night on The Amazing Race was ridiculous. Let's look at the wreckage:
  • Tyler and James (the models) get a flat tire on their way to the Mongolian Temple. They try to change out the flat with their spare, but can't figure out how to use their jack. A number of teams pass them, but no one stops and helps. Finally, a nice Mongolian man comes to their rescue and they fix the tire.
  • David and Mary (the Southerners) somehow found themselves in a field of mud, eventually digging their cars into a couple of feet of the impenetrable gunk. Once it becomes clear there's no getting out, a replacement vehicle is provided by the producers.
  • Erwin and Godwin (the smart brothers) watch helplessly as their car dies on the way to the pit stop. After a while, again a Mongolian man comes to help and they get the car started.
  • The final two teams to leave the road block, Lyn and Karlyn (the single mothers) and Jamie and Kellie (the cheerleaders) both find that their cars won't start. Mongolian men come to the rescue (Do you sense a recurring theme?) and help the cheerleaders first (weird) and the single mothers second.
So, what have we learned? 1)That transporting luxury cars to Outer Mongolia does not insure that they will work. 2)Even in Mongolia, cheerleaders get preferential treatment. 3)The men in Mongolia are either very nice, television whores, or both. 4)The Amazing Race continues to be the most entertaining reality show on television. -Oscar Dahl
