Can a team actually blunder into a million buck win?

That seems to be the case on this lackluster year of The Amazing Race, where incredibly we're watching what could very well be reality TV's version of Revenge of the Nerds. If there was a wrong turn, these boys took it. If there was a challenged to be botched, count on Dan and Andrew. Say what you will, Dandrew at least offers some comic relief this season. They started out a little cocky, but the roosters have had their feathers plunked often enough to make them more humble as the race winds down to the finale this Sunday.

And you've got to hand it to the out-of-shape duo: They almost incapacitated an entire Russian military unit when the soldier boys doubled over in laughter at the sight of Dan trying to do a simple march step while looking like a deranged rag doll. Once again, the lack of motor skills almost proved to be their downfall.

Yet somewhere there's a guardian angel working overtime to keep Dandrew in the hunt. How else can you explain the total brain freeze of private-school-educated Dallas, who couldn't tell the difference between Lenin and Stalin and, in a final brain-dead stunt, left the team's passport and money in a cab?

These are the twists and turns that makes The Amazing Race an unpredictable joy. You never know who is going to get the bad cab or board the wrong flight. It also means that often time some of our favorite competitors get the boot before they should. Toni and Dallas should have made the final three based on their consistent performance. Instead, we get frat boys blessed by some saint of the incompetent.

Dandrew needs to win the prize, because those two have sucked all the luck out of their lives with this one adventure. Only Nick and Starr, AKA creepy Sharpay and Ryan, have a shot at bringing them down. Not that we'd enjoy that.

The perky pair has a nasty little underbelly that comes out consistently, from Nick stealing other people's cabs to Starr's bitchy little tantrums. Dallas, my friend, you were only seeing the pretty and forgetting about the crusty when you were shamelessly flirting with Starr girl. We're fairly sure she only had her game face on, and the chances of a post-race hook-up are about the same as Britney staying out of rehab.

Now, only Sharpayryan stand between those charmed boys and the big bucks waiting at the end, because we're sure the bickering Ken and Tina won't be able to keep it together for the win. While the separated couple claims they are trying to heal their busted relationship – he had an affair and she's not going to let him forget it – most of the time the former football player looks as if he'd rather tour with the American Ballet Theatre than spend another minute with Tina.

Tina's snippy and snotty, and wants to make sure everyone in the world knows when she's done a good turn. When she helped out the hopeless Dallas, she practically took out a billboard announcing what a fabulous person she was. Tina, it's not a good deed when you say in a somewhat threatening voice that the recipient owes you for your kindness.

Kind of puts the whole Ken-stepping-out deal in perspective, although neither one seems like much of a prize.

Last week, Dancing with the Stars had a dismal viewer turnout for the finale. Why watch when you know Brooke's going to waltz off with the title? It's like sticking around for the last quarter of the game when your team is losing by a landslide. Get out of the parking lot before the jam, because the lights have already gone out.

There's little doubt that barring some herculean effort by Dandrew's handy angel, Nick and Starr will win The Amazing Race, so interest might be light. Unless viewers just have to take a peek to see if Dandrew pulls off the biggest upset ever.
